OH! Helloooooo!
Let's start doing this weekly shall we? Tour and more...
RIGHT! I set up Substack as an emergency when it looked like Twitter was going to implode but that’s actually quite unlikely because Musk quite fancies well and truly running it in to the ground. It’ll likely die with a whimper rather than a KABOOM…or be sold to a regular terrible billionaire when Musk’s investors say “we’re here to pick up the dough” or whatever it is money people say. I’ve been watching Industry so I understand these sorts of things now. By the way, I think I hate Industry but I can’t seem to stop watching.
I had an absolutely fine Edinburgh. It was my tenth solo hour and it was well-received, the crowd sizes were healthy and I really really enjoyed doing the show (definitely my best yet). Unfortunately I’d been put in a much bigger room than I’ve done before (seated nearly 120) and crowd sizes WERE healthy…but healthy for last year’s room which seated 76. I sold out three times and never had my 2016 numbers (shudder) but with audience numbers down across the board at this year’s fringe I wish I’d had last year’s room. No dead shows though so that’s good.
And now? My tour! So last year I did my first national tour and it went great. Cracking crowds, excellent numbers and I couldn’t wait to tour my new show. 18 months is a long time though and this year sales just haven’t been anywhere near what we had last year. Whether it’s cost of living crisis, me losing my appeal or a bit of both, I dunno, this week I had to make the difficult decision to pull several of my October dates. Everyone who bought tickets will get refunds but it just wasn’t feasible for me financially to do the dates that hadn’t sold well. There’ll be a London date for the show next year in a smaller venue I hope. What this DOES mean though is that I get to concentrate my efforts on the dates we’ve kept. So the tour now kicks off on October 12th in Fareham and then on the 17th I’m at gorgeous Komedia in Brighton. On the 23rd I’m heading to Cambridge and on spooooopy Halloween I’m in Milton Keynes. All details can be found on my gigs page.
